9ct Green Tourmaline & Diamond Halo Signet Ring

A signet head reworked around a green tourmaline cabochon of 0.95 carats, ringed by twenty-four diamonds and carried on a pierced yellow gold shank with swirls running up both shoulders.

The design starts with our founder. John Cameron Price kept coming back to swirling motifs, and our designer Evé took that habit and built it in CAD. The halo head went in first so the spacing for the setting claws could be exact, then the swirls were drawn in three dimensions and positioned onto the shoulders where the whole ring could be turned and judged from every angle before a gram of gold was committed. Once it was signed off it was 3D printed as a model, tuned by hand, attached to a wax tree, cast, cleaned and set here in Diss.

CAD is not a shortcut. Building a ring this way means the structure comes out of the casting in one piece with no solder joins in it, which is a genuinely stronger ring than the same design assembled from parts. It also means we hold the design, so it can be repaired precisely, or made again one day in a different metal or around a different stone.

A signet is normally the most conservative thing in a jewellery box. This is a modern reading of one.
