Claw retipping
& re-clawing.

Worn claws are the most common way a stone is lost. The tiny claws that hold your stones wear thin with the years, and once they’re too thin to grip, the stone is only one knock away from gone. We rebuild and replace them by hand at our Diss workshop, matching the metal and the original setting style. Caught early, it’s cheap insurance.

Retipping or full re-clawing. We build worn tips back up, or rebuild claws entirely where they’re too far gone, matching the metal and the original setting style.

Gentle on the stone. Delicate, antique and stone-set pieces are repaired with laser tools where needed, keeping heat well away from the gems. And if a diamond has already gone, we can match and replace it.

Common questions about claw retipping

Pop in to ask

How do I know if my claws need retipping?

If a stone moves or catches on fabric, or the claw tips look flat or thin, it’s time. Bring it in and we’ll check it under magnification, free of charge.

How much does it cost?

Retipping starts from £45 for a single claw, rising with the number of claws and the metal involved. A full re-claw is typically £150–£250. As our prices move with the gold price, we’ll always quote you honestly before any work begins.

Will it damage the stone?

No. For delicate or antique pieces we use laser soldering to keep heat away from the gem. Your stone is safe in the setting throughout.

Don’t wait until the stone is gone.
