9ct Cushion Sapphire & Diamond Ring

A faceted cushion sapphire of 1.38 carats sits low in a hand-formed yellow gold crossover, with two ribbons of round brilliant diamonds, 0.27 carats between them, sweeping past the shoulders.

Master Goldsmith Paul made it at the bench in our Norfolk workshop, working the gold around the stone rather than setting the stone into a ready-made mount. That is the slower way round and it is why the shank meets the setting as one continuous line instead of a join. The fluid lines and organic shapes come from the same instinct our founder John Cameron Price designed by, and of the seven Heritage pieces this is the one that states it most plainly.

A sapphire this size in a warm 9ct yellow gold reads deeper than it would in white metal. The diamonds are there to give the eye somewhere to travel rather than to compete with it.
