Ring sizing & resizing

From £50 · laser-welded joins

The ring you love should fit the way it deserves to. Too tight, too loose, or inherited and never quite right: we open or close the shank, reform the ring to a true circle, and finish the join so you cannot find it.

Most resizes are done at our bench by one of our four goldsmiths, and the join is laser-welded where the band is thin or the ring is set, so the heat never reaches your stones. White gold is re-plated here too, so we can finish the ring as part of the agreed two-week repair.

Can your ring be resized?

Silver, platinum, eternity and stone-set

Most rings can be resized, including inherited pieces and rings bought elsewhere. Silver and gold are the straightforward ones. Platinum needs a different technique and a little longer. A full eternity band, a tension setting or a titanium ring often cannot be altered at all, and a heavily set band is sometimes better remade than worked.

We will tell you which of those yours is before you leave it with us. If resizing is the wrong answer we will say so, and suggest the one that is. That is sometimes a smaller job than the one you came in for.

How much does ring resizing cost?

It depends on the metal and how far the size is moved. Suitable shrinking or stretching starts from £50. Other methods are quoted after inspection:

Suitable shrinking or stretching

The price rises with the metal, the width of the band and how far the size is moved. For inexpensive silver rings it’s often better value to order your size instead, and we’ll say so.

Common questions about ring resizing

Ask us at the bench

How long does it take?

Ring resizing takes two weeks. If you need it for a particular date, let us know and we’ll do our best.

Can you resize a ring bought elsewhere?

Yes. We resize and repair rings bought anywhere, including inherited pieces and rings from other jewellers. Bring it in and a goldsmith will check it over with you first.

Can you resize an eternity or antique ring?

Often, yes. But these need extra care. Bring it in and a goldsmith will look at it with you and explain exactly what can be done.

My ring is stuck and won’t come off. Can you help?

Yes. We remove stuck rings free of charge in the shop with a specialist cutter that protects your finger, see our ring removal page. We recommend waiting about two weeks after removal before we size or quote, so your finger can settle.

My ring won’t pass a swollen or arthritic knuckle. Can you help?

Yes. Ask us about Superfit. It’s a custom ring-sizing technique with a discreet, micro-engineered hinge that opens to slip over the knuckle, then closes for a secure fit at the base of the finger. It’s ideal for arthritic or swollen knuckles, suits a variety of rings, and comes with a 5-year guarantee. Sample hinged rings can be tried in the shop.
