Ring removal
& cutting.
A ring that won’t come off needn’t mean a hospital trip. We remove stuck rings safely at our Diss shop with a specialist cutter — free of charge, and far gentler than forcing it.
When a ring is truly stuck — a swollen knuckle, an injury, a change in weight — forcing it does more harm than parting the band. Our cutter protects your finger while we take it off, quickly and safely.
Free in the shop. Pop in and we’ll remove a stuck ring free of charge with our specialist cutter. If you need us to come to you, only the call-out is charged separately.
Your finger protected. A guard shields your skin while the band is cut, then the ring is eased wider to clear the hand — the safe way, and far kinder than pliers, string or soap.
Cutting and widening a ring to clear the knuckle does mark it — but it’s rarely the end of the piece. Once your finger has settled, our goldsmiths can rebuild it to look like new.
Give it two weeks. The finger stays swollen for a while after a ring comes off. We recommend waiting around two weeks before we measure you, so the new fit is accurate.
Restored, not written off. The cut and the stretch damage the band, but skilled hands put it right — re-rounded, re-joined and finished. We’ll quote you for the resize and repair once we’ve seen it.
Does it cost anything to have a ring cut off?
Not in the shop — we remove stuck rings free of charge with our specialist cutter. Only a call-out, where we travel to you, is charged extra.
Will cutting damage my ring?
Cutting and widening the band to clear the knuckle does mark it, yes. But it’s almost always repairable — our goldsmiths re-round, re-join and finish it so you’d never know.
Can you resize it straight away?
We’d recommend waiting about two weeks first. The finger stays swollen after a ring is removed, so letting it settle means we take an accurate size and quote properly for the resize.
Is it safe?
Very. The cutter has a guard that protects your finger while the band is parted — far safer than forcing it, or tricks like string and soap.
