Vintage & antique gold charms

Pre-loved 9ct gold charms, many with their working parts still moving. Each one is chosen piece by piece at our family jewellers in Diss, on the Norfolk–Suffolk border. Wear one on a bracelet or a fine chain, and ask us about fitting it.

A small history in gold

Ask about a charm

Charms were made to mark something: a wedding, a birth, a first trip abroad. Ours are second-hand pieces in 9ct yellow gold, and the best of them move. A caravan with an opening roof and turning wheels. A passport whose pages you can leaf through. A galleon that opens to show a hidden anchor.

British 9ct gold carries a 375 hallmark, the parts per thousand of pure gold in the alloy. Some charms were cast solid and some were made hollow, which is why two of a similar size can differ in weight. We give the weight of each one on its page.

Pre-loved gold needs no new mining. These charms were made once already, and we would rather see them worn again than melted down. Our workshop in Diss has been open since 1975, so if a charm needs a new jump ring or a moving part checked, it can be done at the bench.

Common questions about vintage charms

Antique & vintage jewellery

What is the difference between a vintage and an antique charm?

Antique usually means a piece at least a hundred years old. Vintage is used more loosely, for pieces that are decades old but not yet antique. We only call a charm antique when we can date it.

Are your charms solid gold?

All of them are 9ct yellow gold. Some are cast solid and some, like the tortoise and the fish, are hollow. Each page gives the weight, which is the quickest guide to how much gold is in a charm.

Can I wear a charm on a necklace instead of a bracelet?

Yes. Every charm here comes on a 9ct gold jump ring, so it will hang from a chain as a pendant as well as from a charm bracelet.

Can you fit a charm to my bracelet?

Bring your bracelet or chain to our workshop in Diss and ask. We can check the jump ring and any moving parts while it is with us, and talk you through the options for chain and clasp repairs.
