Old Cut Diamond & Tsavorite Trilogy Ring
‘When Old Meets New’
~
This dazzling ring was inspired by an antique diamond solitaire we had on display at The Jewellery Workshop. The piece boasted a 2.7ct old cut diamond mounted in a traditional scalloped basket, despite loving the look of this ring our client was keen to add a more contemporary edge.
To achieve this our designer goldsmith Laura began to re-design the ring incorporating shoulder stones in our clients favourite colour- green. Originally these shoulder stones were intended to be emeralds, however as the ring was intended to be worn often we opted for vivid green tsavorites, as they are more hard wearing. The end result is a vintage inspired ring that has kept all the charm of the original piece, such as the intricate scalloped basket and dazzling old cut diamond, as well as having the pop of colour and modern edge our client desired.
Notes from the workshop
What is an old cut diamond? In the past diamonds were measured by eye and cut by hand meaning each one has its own unique qualities. Although old cut diamonds have 58 facets -the same as a modern brilliant cut- that is where the similarities end. The shape of an old cut diamond is often more square and the higher crown, smaller table and larger culet give the stones an incredible depth and personality.
